It is one of the most common cancers in the United States, accounting for about 15 percent of all cases, or 170,000 new cases each year. It is also the worst cancer killer in America, taking more lives each year than breast, prostate and colorectal cancers combined, according to the American Cancer Society. It is the leading cause of cancer deaths in US women and is responsible for as many deaths as breast and all gynecological cancers combined.

Smoking

Smoking, radon, and second hand smoke are the leading causes. Smoking causes an estimated 160,000* deaths in the US. Smoking leads to 85 percent to 90 percent of all lung cancers. Smoking affects non-smokers by exposing them to second hand smoke. If a person stops smoking, this chance steadily decreases as damage to the lungs is repaired and contaminant particles are gradually removed.

Radon

Radon is a colorless and odorless gas generated by the breakdown of radioactive radium, which in turn is the decay product of uranium, found in the earth's crust. Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, according to EPA estimates. Radon causes between 15,000 and 22,000 deaths each year in the United States -- 12 percent of all lung cancer deaths are linked to radon.

Risk

Risk factors include the following: Smoking cigarettes or cigars, now or in the past. Not all cases are due to smoking, but the role of passive smoking is increasingly being recognized as a risk factor, leading to policy interventions to decrease undesired exposure of non-smokers to others' tobacco smoke. A smoker who is also exposed to radon has a much higher risk. The more cigarettes you smoke per day and the earlier you started smoking, the greater your risk of lung cancer. High levels of pollution, radiation and asbestos exposure may also increase risk.

Symptoms

Symptoms include: Chronic cough, Hoarseness, Coughing up blood, Weight loss & loss of appetite, Shortness of breath, Fever without a known reason, Wheezing, Repeated bouts of bronchitis or pneumonia and Chest pain. About 10% of people do not have symptoms at diagnosis; these cancers are incidentally found on routine chest x-rays. In fact, lung cancer can spread outside the lungs without causing any symptoms.

Treatment

Treatment depends on the cancer's specific cell type, how far it has spread, and the patient's performance status. It also depends on the stage, or how advanced it is. Treatment choices can be discussed with a doctor. It may include chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. In recent years, various molecular targeted therapies have been developed as treatments.

Conclusion

Lung cancer is the second most commonly occurring form of cancer in most western countries, and it is the leading cancer-related cause of death. It is the most common cause of cancer deaths in both men and women, accounting for nearly a third of cancer deaths annually in the United States. It has become the subject of a great amount of research. Although the rate of men dying from it is declining in western countries, it is actually increasing for women due to the increased takeup of smoking by this group. We already know that the best way to prevent it is to quit (or never start) smoking. Three to five years after quitting, the risk of getting the disease is reduced by half.

Richard H. It is believed to strengthen the immune system and help fight disease, including certain forms of cancer. Women are particularly interested in facts about vitamin E because of its use in cosmetics and skin products, such as lotions, creams, and soaps.

Alpha-tocopherol (or simply tocopherol) is the form of vitamin E that is most beneficial to humans. It can be obtained from dietary sources or taken as a supplement. However, vitamin E supplements may not be advisable for everyone, and doctor's advice is recommended before taking them. Your doctor can give you important facts about vitamin E and what it can do for you. Here are some basic facts about vitamin E, including its uses, sources, and recommended doses.

Uses of vitamin E

One of the best known facts about vitamin E is its use as an antioxidant. Antioxidants help destroy free radicals – substances that cause cell damage and impair immune function. It also prevents stroke, artery blockage, and heart disease by blocking the conversion of fat into plaque and cholesterol. Vitamin E can strengthen the skin and make it less prone to UV damage and photodermatitis.

Sources of vitamin E

Food sources of vitamin E include green leafy vegetables, nuts, eggs, liver, sunflower seeds, and various vegetable oils, particularly wheat germ oil. It is also available in supplement form, usually in tablets and capsules. Vitamin E deficiency is relatively rare, not everyone may need vitamin E supplements. Your doctor can give you basic facts about vitamin E supplements and whether you can benefit from them.

Recommended amounts

For healthy adults, doctors recommend 400 to 800 international units (IU) per day. Ideal doses vary according to age and certain medical conditions:

Six months and below: 6 IU
Six months to one year: 9 IU
One to three years: 9 IU
Four to eight years: 10.5 IU
Nine to 13 years: 16.5 IU
14 to 18 years: 22.5 IU
Over 18 years: 22.5 IU
Pregnant women: 22.5 IU
Breastfeeding women: 28.5 IU

IMPORTANT: Some vitamin E supplements may contain additives that can be harmful to your health, such as sugar, starch, silica, and gluten. To stay safe, buy only supplements that are GMP-compliant. This ensures that the product passes strict quality standards and has no harmful chemicals. Also, make sure it does not contain any artificial colors and flavors.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) is a fat-soluble vitamin naturally produced when the skin is exposed to sunlight. It aids in the absorption of calcium and helps maintain healthy bones. Vitamin D deficiency causes various bone disorders, such as rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.

Sunlight is the primary source of vitamin D (cholecalciferol), since very few foods contain significant amounts of the nutrient. It is also available as a health supplement, and many foods are vitamin D-fortified. However, vitamin D supplements must be taken in moderation because it can be toxic in large doses. This guide offers basic information on vitamin D (cholecalciferol) and tips on using supplements.

1. Recommended intake

Unlike other nutrients, vitamin D has no general recommended dietary allowance (RDA). Instead, an Adequate Intake (AI) for each age group has been established. The AIs are 200 International Units (IU) for ages 19 to 50, 400 IU for ages 51 to 69, and 600 IU for people aged 70 and up.

2. Who needs vitamin D supplements?

People who get limited sunlight need supplements or fortified foods to meet their AIs. These include people living in the northern latitudes, women who wear full body covers for religious reasons, and those who spend much of the day working indoors. Infants who are exclusively breastfed also need vitamin D (cholecalciferol) supplements because breast milk is low in vitamin D.

Because it is fat-soluble, vitamin D can be used for conditions that cause fat malabsorption. These include Crohn’s disease, cystic fibrosis, sprue, liver disease, small bowel disease, pancreatic enzyme deficiencies, and surgical removal of all or part of the stomach.

3. Side effects and safety

Vitamin D can be toxic in high doses. Symptoms of vitamin D toxicity are nausea, vomiting, constipation, weakness, poor appetite, and weight loss. It can also raise calcium levels in the blood, which can cause heart problems, confusion, and calcinosis, or the buildup of calcium and phosphate in the liver and kidneys.

Vitamin D overdose is commonly caused by supplements rather than food sources alone. People taking cod liver oil for cholesterol reduction are particularly at risk, because a dose can exceed the daily limit of vitamin D to reach beneficial levels of omega-3 (the substance that reduces cholesterol).

IMPORTANT: Some vitamin D (cholecalciferol) supplements contain potentially harmful chemicals such as silica, gluten, starch, and sugar. Choose only GMP-compliant supplements to make sure your supplements are free of such additives. Avoid products added with artificial flavors and colors.

Vitamin C

Do you sometimes feel your intensity and/or energy levels are going down? Your diet is good, you drink enough water, all other things seams to be perfect but for some reason you lack energy you had just recently. Symptoms of weakness and tiredness are very disturbing but worse of all, very much destructive for all building muscle mass attempts we may have. Good news here! Vitamin C is the answer. Muscle weakness is a common symptom of vitamin C deficiency.

Research showed valuable data. Functions of ascorbic acid indicate that any strength athlete needs to be consuming more than the RDA (recommended dietary allowance) because it has several functions that are important for building strength and muscle mass. Vitamin C is needed for maintaining the strength of tendons and ligaments but also it is essential for the adrenaline synthesis (the hormone crucial for intense training).

Physical training increases oxidative damage to cells in muscle tissue in our body. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that reduces the amount of oxidative damage caused by exercise. Proper amount of vitamin C ensures a lower release of cortisol. Why this cortisol thing is important? Being a catabolic hormone it does serve in other ways but its presence in the muscles promote excessive breakdown of muscle tissue. Therefore, lower secretion of this hormone should provide faster recovery and better performance. But here is a problem: vitamin C is not of the stable structure and it can not be stored it in our bodies. Therefore we need sufficient amounts of vitamin C everyday. You may know that RDA for vitamin C is 60mg/day. However, recent studies in people that are not athletes suggest that a good intake is more likely to be around 200mg/day. And if you saw ours (or any other good) nutrition calculator you already know it is not too difficult to arrange. 8-ounce glass of orange juice will provide you with around 100mgs of vitamin C.

But it is very difficult to know the right amount your body will need. I must say it wouldn't hurt to supplement with an additional 250-500mgs a couple of times a day particularly if you are already feeling the "down phase" symptoms. I always take an extra 500mg dose with breakfast and before I train just to be sure. To conclude, vitamin C isn't advertised and glorified as so many "big" supplement labels. Smart and complete exercise - diet program contains perfect balance of all important elements for muscular development like Vitamin C. Fresh sources of the vitamin C like orange juice or lemonade are best in the sense. Adding extra vitamin C by supplementing your diet for most of us is necessary but not so effective without complete approach.

Vitamin B12

Commonly known as the "anti-stress" vitamin, vitamin B12 is an affiliate of the vitamin B-complex group. As cobalt is one of the complex vitamins constituents, a scientific synonym for this water-soluble mineral is cobalamin.

The pivotal function of vitamin B12 is to aid in the formation of red blood cells in the human body. It is also vital for DNA replication during cell division. Vitamin B12 is an important quotient for maintaining the neurological health balance and the synthesis of myelin (a complex protein, constituting the sheath protecting nerve fibers) in particular with relation to the metabolism of fatty acids. It also enhances the activity of the immune system and the body's ability to withstand stressful conditions.

The authentic sources of vitamin B12 are animal foods. Meat, dairy products, and eggs contain this vitamin in substantial amounts. A possible plant source of vitamin B12 has been the subject of ongoing research. However, the prominent line of thought is that traces of vitamin B12 present in plant foods is highly variable in terms of content and cannot be relied upon as safe sources.

Vitamin B12 is an extraordinary vitamin. In comparison with other vitamins, the human body requires only a small ingestion of it. The Reference Nutrient intake (RNI) as per US standards is 4.5 mcg per day for young adult men, and 3 mcg/day for young adult women. Adults above 50 are prescribed to substantiate their diets with a greater quantity of about 10 to 25 mcg per day.

The liver is the main site for storage of vitamin B12 in the human body. It accounts for 80% of the reserves out of the 2.5mg average body stock of vitamin B12. Body reserves of vitamin B12 are directly proportional to the consumption levels. Vitamin B12 is also associated with the phenomenon of enterohepatic circulation, i.e., it is excreted in the bile and is effectively reabsorbed. It is because of the twin factors of body storage and re-absorption that it takes a considerable span time for a normal person to develop a deficiency syndrome.

Another unique feature is that vitamin B12 does not rely on whole food or plant-based diet as its source. Herbivores absorb this essential from the bacteria present in the digestive system. Vitamin B12 is generally stable, but prolonged cooking can destroy its food value by a considerable degree (estimated reduction of food value is by 1/3).

The most specific test for B12 status is methylmalonic acid (MMA) testing. The amount of vitamin B12 that comes out in the urine is measured by the Schilling test.

Vitamin B12 has a very low potential for toxicity, and, hence, there is no prescribed Tolerable Upper Intake Level for cobalamin. Medical experts are of opinion that it’s best to rely on food sources for the intake of vitamin B12.

Although required in small quantities, vitamin B12 acts as a catalyst to numerous body processes and as such is vital ingredient for the human body.

Vitamin B 12 provides detailed information on Vitamin B 12, Vitamin B 12 Creams, Vitamin B 12 Deficiency, Vitamin B 12 Injections and more. Vitamin B 12 is affiliated with Topical Vitamin C.

Vitamin B9

Vitamin B9 (folic acid) is a B-vitamin essential for growth, proper brain function, and mental and emotional health. Like other B-vitamins, it also converts carbohydrates into sugar, which is then transformed into energy. It works closely with vitamins B6 and B12 to regulate red blood cells and control blood levels of homocysteine, which is known to deplete folic acid from the body.

Vitamin B9 (folic acid) can be found in dark green leafy vegetables, root vegetables, beans and legumes, beef liver, whole grains, oysters, avocado, milk, and orange juice. Because meats are a poor source of B9, most doctors recommend B9 supplements to prevent folic acid deficiency, especially in pregnant and menstruating women. Some of the other uses of vitamin B9 (folic acid) are as follows:

1. Pregnancy

Folic acid deficiency in pregnant women can cause neural tube defects in their babies. This is why folate is found in most prenatal vitamins. Taking folic acid supplements in the first trimester can reduce the risk of birth defects by 72% to 100%. Studies also suggest that folic acid can prevent miscarriages, Down’s syndrome, and childhood leukemia, although this has yet to be proven.

2. Homocysteine control

Vitamin B9 (folic acid) can reduce cholesterol and homocysteine, both primary risk factors for heart disease, stroke, and heart attack. It also prevents damage to the blood vessels and encourages better blood flow. Folic acid strengthens the nervous system, preventing nervous disorders like dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

To effectively reduce homocysteine, doctors usually recommend at least 400 mcg of folate a day, although some studies show that 650 to 800 mcg may be more effective. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), this is best obtained from the diet rather than supplements, except for patients with a personal or family history of heart disease.

3. Bone strength

Folic acid is one of the primary nutrients needed to keep bones healthy throughout one’s life. Sufficient levels of vitamin B9 (folic acid), in conjunction with vitamins B6 and B12, can help prevent osteoporosis and other bone disorders.

4. Cancer prevention

Folic acid may also protect against cancer of the colon, breast, cervix, esophagus, and stomach. Some experts believe it keeps DNA healthy and prevents cancerous mutations. To effectively prevent colorectal cancer, patients need al least 400 mcg of folic acid every day for at least 15 years. Women who regularly drink alcohol are more likely to develop breast cancer, and may need folic acid to lower the risk.

IMPORTANT: Dietary supplements are not strictly regulated in the US. Some vitamin B9 (folic acid) supplements may contain silica, starch, sugar, or gluten, which may be harmful to your health. Choose supplements that are GMP-compliant to make sure they do not contain such chemicals

Vitamin B8

Vitamin B8 is a water-soluble vitamin, which is not only widely distributed in food but also manufactured in the lower digestive tract of the human body. It is very stable when heated.

Benefits of Vitamin B8 –

* Vitamin B8 or biotin is imperative for a healthy immune system. It is necessary for the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats from food. It is also required for the utilization of proteins, folic acid and vitamin B 12.

* Vitamin B8 plays an important role DNA and RNA synthesis (genetic material), production of red blood cells and proper functioning of the nervous system.

* It is essential for the growth of healthy hair as well as prevents premature greying of the hair as well as hair loss. Biotin, found as an active ingredient in many of today's shampoos and hair conditioners, is said to repair damaged hair and keep hair healthy.

* This vitamin also helps to maintain the skin in healthy condition. It helps to evenly distribute the colour pigment – melanin throughout the skin. Deficiency of this vitamin often leads to pigmentation problems.

* Required in the creation of glycogen, and is also essential in the making of fatty acids.

* Essential for pregnant women as it helps prevention of neural tube birth defects

* It has a significant role in red blood cell formation along with homocysteine metabolism (required for proper functioning of the heart). Deficiency of Vitamin B-8 results in megaloblastic anemia.

Deficiency of Vitamin B8 –

A deficiency in B8 is rare since it is widely available in food.

« It is necessary to provide proper biotin supplementation, in case a person is unable to take a rich diet. Deficiency signs usually appear after 6 month to 3 years in adults, but relatively faster in children (3-6 months).

« Adequate biotin intake is necessary for reducing the risk of brain and spinal cord birth defects.

« Deficiency of biotin causes muscular weakness, pain, pricking of the skin, lethargy and lack of appetite. It may cause skin diseases such as eczema, dandruff, hair loss, seborrhic dermatitis, heart abnormalities, lung infections, anemia, confusion, mental depression, and drowsiness. In severe cases, the fleshy part of the tongue may gradually melt away.

« Certain psychiatric symptoms may also develop due to deficiency such as depression, hallucinations, sensitivity problems, confusion.

« In children, a psychological delay is observed, along with ataxia, and convulsions. Metabolic acidosis may also cause coma.

Deficiency causes -

Inherited metabolic disease was the first biotin-carboxylase deficiency disease that was recorded in 1979 by Cowan and Wara. It is also the most common cause of inborn metabolic acidosis – however can be cured by adequate levels of biotin supplements.

Other causes of a biotin deficiency -

* Absorption of large quantities of crude eggs - avidin that is found in white raw eggs, binds with biotin and inhibits its absorption in the digestive tract.

* Breast milk which is not rich enough in biotin – due to poor nutrition of mother.

* Haemodialysis - brain and nerve failures.

* Malnutrition.

* Chronic anti-epilepsy treatment whereby biotin absorption is reduced due to intake of antiepileptic drugs.

* Chronic alcoholism

* Digestive tract diseases in elderly persons.

Biotin is not toxic, even at large dosages.

Good dietary sources of Vitamin B8 –

Vitamin B8 deficiency is quite rare, as it is found in mostly all food sources. So, if a person is following a regular and well balanced healthy diet, it is quite impossible for him to develop a biotin deficiency. However, rich sources of biotin in food include -

· Brewer's yeast

· Sprouted seeds

· Legumes

· Cauliflower

· Nuts

· Whole brown rice

· Whole cereals

· Fruits

· Milk

· Yoghurt

· Peanut butter

· Fatty fish

· Egg yolks

· Wheat germ

As mentioned above, eating a variety of foods that contain vitamin B8 is the best way to get an adequate amount and prevent deficiency. Healthy individuals who eat a balanced diet rarely need supplements.

This vitamin is also normally produced in the intestines if there is a sufficient amount of strong intestinal flora present. However, frequent intake of antibiotics can interfere with the bodily synthesis of this vitamin.

Dosage of Vitamin B8 –

The daily recommended intake for Vitamin B8 is 400 micrograms – an amount that all women of childbearing age should consume each day.

Like the other B vitamins, this requirement needs to be increased during times of stress, pregnancy and lactation.

In the elderly, a daily Vitamin B8 supplement of 500 mg may be required – although it should not substitute a diet rich in fruit and vegetables. There are however, no reported toxicity levels of high doses of Vitamin B8 intake.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is one of the B Group of vitamins and is also known as Pyridoxine. B6 is essential for the functioning of the immune system and in enabling the body to make use of carbohydrates and fats. B6 is also thought to be beneficial to those that are suffering from depression and skin problems. If you do not have the right amount of Pyridoxine then you can be prone to nervous complaints and also poor skin and nails. It is also though to be helpful in preventing some types of cancer and also some heart conditions. Pyridoxine can be very helpful to these that are suffering from hormonal changes during their middle age years and all of the complications that go along with this.

It is possible to take too much B6 and it can have some unpleasant effects, so if you are taking supplements then it is best to consult your doctor to find out whether it is right for you to take supplements and the amount that you should be taking. The recommended daily amount for both men and women is 2mg. If you are worried that you might need a supplement, then ask your doctor if you should take it on it's own or as a whole as part of a vitamin B complex.

There are a great many good food sources of vitamin B6 and this is the way that most people get their intake of the vitamin. Brewer’s yeast is a good source for most of the B vitamins and this is one of the most popular ways to take a supplement. You can also get B6 from meat such as chicken and liver. There are also some vegetarian sources of B6 such as wheat germ and peas. It is worth bearing in mind that Vitamin B6 can be very easily destroyed. One of the main ways that this happens is through cooking. When you cook the heat that is used destroys the B6 in the food.

Vitamin B6 is a very important vitamin that has many useful functions in the body but you should be able to get all they you need through your food. However, if you think that you might need to take a supplement then it is a good idea to see your doctor. If you end up consuming too much of B6 then it is possible that it could aversely affect your body.

Vitamin B5

Vitamin B5 is also known as Pantothenic Acid, and the vitamin is also called the “anti-stress vitamin. The benefits of vitamin B5 also include supporting and marinating a healthy digestive system. An enzyme that is converted from vitamin B5, coenzyme, detoxifies the body and removes harmful herbicides, insecticides, and drugs.

It is not advisable to have a diet high in processed foods, because a lot of B5-pantothenic acid is lost in the processing of food. The two basic forms of Vitamin B3 are niacin (nicotinic acid) and niacinamide (nicotinamide). Vitamin B3 is used to make fat from the carbohydrates as well as to process alcohol. Niacin helps to regulate our cholesterol, but niacinamide does not. Vitamin B3 usually works with Vitamin B1 and B2 to release energy from the carbohydrates we consume. They are usually given in a B complex supplement or a multivitamin.

Sources of Vitamin B3

There are different food sources of Vitamin B3 such as fish, peanuts, brewer's yeast, meat and whole grains. Other sources are cooked dried beans, non or low fat milk, cheese, eggs, soybeans and green vegetables. Vegetables should be steamed, baked or used in stir-fry to keep the Vitamin B3 in them. Because it is a water-soluble vitamin and does not stay in our bodies, it's important that we always have enough in our system. Vitamin B3 is added to white flour and since so many things contain white flour, most individuals get enough Vitamin B3 in their normal diet. However, many people choose to take 10-25 milligrams of this vitamin as part of a multivitamin. Although the body doesn't require a large amount of Vitamin B3, without this vitamin our body would be lost. Its ability to release energy our bodies need make it very necessary for your bodies.

Reactions from Vitamin B3

The only time large amounts of Vitamin B3 are prescribed is for serious health conditions. Some health issues that may Vitamin B3 may help are osteoarthritis, high triglycerides, acne and high cholesterol.

Symptoms of Vitamin B3 deficiency, though rare, are skin rash, loss of appetite, diarrheas, mental changes, digestive and emotional problems and beefy tongue. One disease that can occur from a deficiency of Vitamin B3 is Pellagra. The symptoms of Pellagra are canker sores, dermatitis, inflammation of the mucous membranes, confusion, depression and diarrhea.

Vitamin B3 supplement are usually safe to take in both forms, however, niacin levels as low as 50-100 mg have caused headaches, flushing and stomach ache in certain individuals. When niacinamide was taken in doses of over 1,000 per day, liver problems have occurred. Other problems that can occur from high levels of Vitamin B3 are gastritis, diabetes, eye damage and high blood levels of uric acid. It's important to always consult with your doctor before you begin to take any kind of supplement. Often people read certain articles about vitamins or symptoms, rush out, buy some supplement, and begin taking it, which can cause more problems.

Vitamin B2

Good news for migraine sufferers – it is now believed that taking regular doses of Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) may help you have less migraines and make the ones that you do have, shorter.

What is Riboflavin?

It’s one of eight B vitamins that are soluble in water. It plays a major role in converting carbohydrates into sugar, which is then burned to produce energy.

The eight B vitamins (which are often called B complex vitamins) are also needed to breakdown fats and proteins. They also keep good muscle tone in the digestive system and help with good health in the nervous system, skin, hair eyes mouth and liver.

What happens if we don’t get enough of it? We can start to suffer from:

* Headaches
* Visual disturbances
* photophobia
* Tiredness
* Problems with digestion
* Painful cracks at the corners of the mouth

Which foods is it found in?

Unlike the other seven B vitamins, riboflavin isn’t in many foods, so the most common reason for not getting enough of it is dietary. This is especially a problem in elderly people.

It’s also destroyed by light, so any foods containing it, or supplements, should be kept in the dark. This is why many dairies changed to cartons.

Riboflavin can be found in:

* Brewer’s yeast
* Almonds
* Wild rice
* Wheat germ
* Mushrooms
* Milk
* Yogurt
* Eggs
* Broccoli
* Brussels sprouts
* Spinach

Riboflavin can withstand heat but as it is a soluble vitamin, it can be lost in the water when foods are cooked. You can counteract this by keeping the water from your sprouts to make gravy. Many varieties of flour and breakfast cereals have riboflavin added to them.

Can’t I just take a supplement?

Yes – that’s a good idea if you don’t eat a balanced diet. Look for a multivitamin that has 100-300% of the recommended daily intake for all of the essential vitamins and minerals that it contains. Riboflavin absorbs into your stomach best if taken with a meal. It’s recommended that if you are taking B2, you should also take a single B vitamin with it, to prevent the B vitamins from becoming unbalanced.

Can anyone take it?

Riboflavin levels in the body can be reduced by some medications. It may also affect how some medications work.

If you are taking any of the following, check with your doctor before taking Riboflavin/Vitamin B2 supplements:

* Tricyclic antidepressants
* Anti-malaria drugs
* Chlorpromazine or other antipsychotic medications
* Birth control pills
* Doxorubicin (a chemotherapy used for some cancers)
* Methotrexate
* Phenytoin
* Probenecid (for gout)
* Selegiline (for Parkinson’s disease)
* ‘sulfa’ medications – certain antibiotics
* Thiazide diuretics

Are there any side-effects to taking it?

Riboflavin doesn’t appear to cause any serious side effects. If very high doses are taken (which should only be done after consulting with your doctor) you may experience:

* Itching
* Numbness
* Burning or prickling feelings
* Sensitivity to light

If you experience any of these side effects let you doctor know, he may want to alter your dosage.

Vitamin B Complex

What is Vitamin B Complex?

The Vitamin B Complex group consists of Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, Vitamin B9 or folic acid and folate and Vitamin B12.

Vitamin B Complex is a group of water-soluble vitamins that are all part of the B vitamin group. Each of them has a number behind it as well as having alternate names. In addition, all though they all are similar in certain ways, they each do different things for our bodies. One is needed as much as the next. Vitamin B vitamins are important nutrients that we need for development, growth and numerous bodily functions. They have a large role in the enzyme's activities (proteins) that control the chemical reactions in our body. One of their main roles is in turning our the food we consume into energy and other necessary substances.

B Vitamins are needed to help us avoid many health conditions. Although Vitamin B9 has been said to have a protective effect against certain cancers, there is still much more research to be done before we can be certain that any of the B Vitamins can reduce the risk of cancer. To fully understand the importance of the Vitamin B complex, you need to understand what each of them does for our body.

Why We Need Vitamin B Complex

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and Vitamin B2 riboflavin) help our bodies to produce energy from the food we eat. They also generate the enzymes that control our nerves, muscles and heart. Vitamin B3 (niacin) helps to produce energy in our cells and is important for the maintenance of our skin, digestive system and nervous system. Pantothenic acid or Vitamin B5 promotes normal growth and development from the time we are infants. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) helps to break down protein in our body as well as the production of healthy red blood cells. It is also responsible for the health of our immune system and nervous system. Biotin or Vitamin B7 helps our body to make hormones as well as breaking down the protein and carbohydrates from the foods we eat. Vitamin B9 helps with the production and maintenance of red blood cells as well as DNA. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is very important in our bodies' growth and development, the functions of our nervous system, production of blood cells and helping our body use carbohydrates and folic acid.

Everyone Needs Vitamin B complex

Every one of us need Vitamin B complex in our system, some more than others. For instance, pregnant and nursing mothers need more Vitamin B9 than others do. Deficiency in Vitamin B can result in tiredness, anemia, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, depression, muscle cramps, numbness or tingling in the legs and arms, poor growth in children, eczema and birth defects.

Vitamin B1

Vitamin B1 also known as Thiamine, maintains energy levels and supports brain function, as well as aids in digestion. The vitamin is also necessary for the metabolism of sugar and starches to provide energy. B1 also helps to maintain a healthy nervous system.

B1 can be found in such foods as wheat germ, sunflower seeds, nuts, oranges, beans, peas and raisins. The vitamin is also found in asparagus, cauliflower, potatoes, milk, whole wheat bread, oatmeal, and brown rice. As you can see, it can be found in the diet, so why would you need supplementation?

Supplementation is necessary in the cases of those who may have a deficiency. Deficiencies can be caused by alcohol consumption (this is true of all B-vitamins). Signs of deficiencies are decreased appetite, vision disturbances, unsteadiness, confusion, memory loss, fatigue, and tachycardia. Another reason for supplementation is because of the major decline in nutrients in foods over the least few decades.

Vitamin B1 Information

Vitamin B1 Thiamine

Vitamin B1 - thiamine is needed by the body to aid in the processing of carbohydrates, fat, and protein. The vitamin is also required by each and every cell of the body for creating the body's fuel. This is why the vitamin is good for ones energy levels. B1 also helps with the growth and toning of muscle. The vitamin B1 is also beneficial for the nervous system by helping it function properly.

Vitamin B1 Information - Deficiency symptoms:

Getting too little of the vitamin b1 thiamine can lead to loss of appetite, insomnia, weight-loss, gastrointestinal problems, major fatigue, irritability, constipation, edema, enlarged liver, forgetfulness, numbness of the hands and feet, tingling sensations, poor coordination, weak, sore and heavy muscles, and major weight loss.

The people most likely to suffer thiamine deficiency include those individuals who are anemic or diabetic and those who take excessive amounts of alcohol or a large quantity of birth control pills.

Vitamin B1 Information

Vitamin B1 Thiamine Side Effects

Excess in-take of vitamin B1 thiamine has not been known to cause levels of toxicity in the body. There are some known side-effects of taking Vitamin B1. They include itching, sweating, a warm feeling, nausea, and weakness. These symptoms may go away over time. You should contact your physician if you experience shortness of breath, tightness of throat, or any other non-typical occurrences.

Some precautions should be observed. You should tell the doctor of any and all medications you are taking, in particular, muscle relaxants you maybe taking to prepare for surgery. If an overdose is suspected, go to the emergency room immediately, or call poison control immediately, and follow all of the directions exactly.

Some Vitamin B1 Precautions

The vitamin Thiamine (B1) is excreted through urine, but large doses can lead to excretion through the skin. This can result in a change of odor on your body.

Further Vitamin B1 information: vitamin b1 calls on other vitamins of the B family to do its job properly. Because of this, when supplementing with the vitamin thiamine, it is best in our opinion, that you take a comprehensive formula that contains the B-complex (other important B vitamins within the product).

After extensive research and no major side effects being found, there is still the chance that Vitamin B1 thiamine may interact with other medications you may be taking. The best advice you can get is - while taking prescription medication of any kind, always be sure to consult a physician or related qualified doctor before adding supplements to your daily nutritional regime.

As always - Pregnant and nursing women are advised to speak with their doctor before beginning supplementation of any kind, whether that be for nutritional purposes or certain health benefits etc.

Our tips On Selecting a Vitamin B1 Thiamine Supplement

1. Nutritional supplements in the U.S. and UK are largely unregulated, and both private and government parties have showed that consumers only have a 1 in 5 chance of purchasing a supplement that actually contains the amount of ingredients stated on the product label. Because of this, only buy nutritional supplements from pharmaceutical GMP compliant facilities, which comply with the most exacting processing regulations.

If you do the latter, you can be sure you will be obtaining the amount of vitamin B1 you paid for, and one that is not contaminated with harmful toxins that will impair your health over time.

2. Try and purchase a Vitamin B1 supplement that contains other B vitamins as well as they work synergistically together giving you the best possible health benefits. You will find many multi vitamins that are cheap from chain super stores. These kinds of vitamins are a complete waste of time, and most, if not all of the nutrients will simply be expelled from your body. In fact, many of these types of vitamins can end up putting more strain on your internal functions.

Remember, once you find a quality company for natural health products, you can use them over and over again on your path for new improved health.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A has been known to help acne breakouts for years. Why it is not used to a greater degree I never understood.

This vitamin is beneficial for many things: night blindness, hormone production, keeping your respiratory, digestive and urinary tract healthy. It also helps your teeth, bones and your skin. And there's the magic word; skin.

Vitamin A has been found to reduce sebum production which causes acne flare-ups. Although, this vitamin can absolutely help you and your acne situation, it has to be used correctly and sparingly. In this case, too much of a good thing can harm you.

Large does of this (upwards of 300,000 IU a day) have been very successful when used to treat cases of severe acne. But as we just stated, be careful. That amount should only be taken under careful supervision of a physician. Vitamin A in those large amounts can be toxic to the body so you are helping one condition and could be actually harming areas of your body including your organs. Without going to that extreme you can help get an abundance of this vitamin into your body by including in your diet: watermelon, cantaloupe, squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, broccoli and other leafy green vegetables. If you are interested in herbs, alfalfa, cayenne, chickweed and burdock root are great sources for Vitamin A.

Also, when taking Vitamin A or eating large quantities of food high in this particular vitamin, make sure to take Vitamin E, or eat foods rich in that vitamin. This helps it metabolize into the body.

Brain Cancer

Brain cancer is a disease of the brain where cancer cells (malignant) grow in the brain tissue. Cancer cells grow to form a mass of cancer tissue (tumor) that interferes with brain tissue functions such as muscle control, sensation, memory, and other normal body functions. Tumors composed of cancer cells are called malignant tumors, and those composed of noncancerous cells are called benign tumors. Cancer cells that develop from brain tissue are called primary brain tumors. Statistics suggest that brain cancer is not rare and is likely to develop in about 20,000 people per year.

There are two main types of brain cancer. Primary brain cancer starts in the brain. Metastatic brain cancer starts somewhere else in the body and moves to the brain. Brain tumors can be benign, with no cancer cells, or malignant, with cancer cells that grow quickly.

Primary brain cancer rarely spreads beyond the central nervous system, and death results from uncontrolled tumor growth within the limited space of the skull. Metastatic brain cancer indicates advanced disease and has a poor prognosis.

Metastatic brain tumors are made of cancerous cells from a tumor elsewhere in the body. The cells spread to the brain from another tumor in a process called metastasis. About 25% of tumors elsewhere in the body metastasize to the brain.

Symptoms of Brain Cancer

Brain tumors can damage vital neurological pathways and invade and compress brain tissue. Symptoms usually develop over time and their characteristics depend on the location and size of the tumor.

Cancers are typically painless at first. As they grow, the first symptom is often a mild discomfort, which may steadily worsen into increasingly severe pain as the cancer enlarges. The pain may result from the cancer compressing or eroding into nerves or other structures.

The symptoms are caused by the tumor pressing on or encroaching on other parts of your brain and keeping them from functioning normally.

A sign is also an indication that something is not right in the body. But signs are defined as things that can be seen by a doctor, nurse, or other health care professional. Fever, rapid breathing rate, and abnormal breathing sounds heard through a stethoscope may be signs of pneumonia.

As the skull is made of bone, there is a fixed amount of space for the brain to take up. The growing tumor increases the pressure inside this fixed space. This is called 'raised intracranial pressure'.

Motion sickness is a very common disturbance of the inner ear that is caused by repeated motion such as from the swell of the sea, the movement of a car, the motion of a plane in turbulent air, etc. In the inner ear (which is also called the labyrinth), motion sickness affects the sense of balance and equilibrium and, hence, the sense of spatial orientation.

Brain tumors can often present different symptoms depending on the location of the tumor. There are general brain tumor symptoms that need to be checked out by a doctor if they are experienced.

Fits are one of the commonest symptoms of brain tumors. About 1 in 4 people with a brain tumor first go to their doctor because they have had a fit. A fit can just be jerking or twitching of a hand, arm or leg.

At the late stages of the disorder, dramatic changes in blood pressure may occur. Seizures are a common symptom of benign brain tumors and slow-growing cancers. Tumors can cause a part of the body to weaken or feel paralyzed. Hearing, sight and the sense of smell can be affected.

Vulvar Cancer

Vulvar cancer is a relatively rare diagnosis, representing about 5% of all gynecologic cancers, and only about 1% of all female cancers in general. There are about 3,500 new cases reported annually in the US and approximately 900 death a year attributed to this disease. The incidence of vulvar cancers has remained stable over the past two decades but the rates of precancerous lesions has more than doubled over the same period of time. The cause for the growing number of cases is not well-understood.

Vulvar cancer is most common in women over 50 years of age. Additional risk factors for vulvar cancer include having multiple sexual partners, cervical cancer, and the presence of chronic vaginal and vulvar inflammations. This typeof cancer is often associated with sexually transmitted diseases.

The vulva is the skin and fatty tissue between the upper thighs of women, from the area of the anus to about an inch below the pubic hairline. Cancer of the vulva most often affects the two skin folds (or lips) around the vagina, known as the labia.

Vulvar cancer is a rare type of cancer. It forms in a woman's external genitals, called the vulva. The cancer usually develops slowly over several years. First, precancerous cells grow on vulvar skin. This is called vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN), or dysplasia. Not all VIN cases turn into cancer, but it is best to treat it early.

Vulvar cancer forms in a woman's external genitalia. The vulva includes the inner and outer lips of the vagina, the clitoris (sensitive tissue between the lips), and the opening of the vagina and its glands. Vulvar cancer is a rare disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the vulva.

At the front of the vagina, the labia minora meet to form a fold or small hood of skin called the prepuce. Beneath it lies the clitoris, an approximately ¾-inch structure of highly sensitive tissue that becomes swollen with blood during sexual stimulation. At the lower end, just beneath the vaginal opening, is the fourchette, where the labia minora meet. Beyond the fourchette is the anus, the opening to the rectum. The space between the vagina and the anus is called the perineum.

Most women with cancer of the vulva are over age 50. However, it is becoming more common in women under age 40. Women who have constant itching and changes in the color and the way the vulva looks are at a high risk to get cancer of the vulva. A doctor should be seen if there is bleeding or discharge not related to menstruation (periods), severe burning/itching or pain in the vulva, or if the skin of the vulva looks white and feels rough.

Vulvar cancer is usually treated with surgery. The type of surgery depends on the size, depth and spread of the cancer. Your doctor will review all the options for surgery and the pros and cons of each option. Some people may also need radiation therapy.

It is best treated by excision or sometimes by laser evaporation. If a large area is involved and must be removed, then a skin graft can be applied. These premalignant conditions are likely to recur after treatment so continued follow up is a necessity. Another condition that can occur on the vulva and also cause itching and soreness is called lichen sclerosis. It is not a premalignant change, but an atrophy of the skin. It will not be improved by anti-yeast medications either. It can be diagnosed by biopsy.

Cancer Genetics

Longer-Overwhelming scientific evidence suggests that the weak parts in our genetic armor can be compensated for through interventions involving diet, exercise, lifestyle modification, and stress management. Genetics and constitutional factors will make some people more disposed to problems in the cardiovascular system, skin, Cancer or memory. Yet, lifestyle factors can be controlled to varying degrees to compensate for genetic weak links. For example if any of your ancestors have had Diabetes or Breast cancer you need not fear.

Research shows that genetics accounts for only a small percentage of physical and mental aging. The maximum contribution comes from our lifestyle, our engagement with life, what we eat, the way we manage stress, our social connections, and sense of personal power. These are definitely not in our genes. Let us not believe in Karma theory anymore and realize that we are the masters of our own fate.

Genes do influence health patterns to a considerable when a person is young. After the age of 50, genetic expression, and thus life expectancy, is more influenced by lifestyle, environment, and nutritional factors. When a person is in their seventies and eighties, there is not much genetic influence left. At elderly age lifetime of environmental influences and personal choices have far more influence than genes.

We have far more control over the aging process than we previously thought. We know that certain genes are associated with a greater risk for lung cancer. Yet, as smoking rates have fallen, so too has the incidence of this life-shortening disease. Heart disease incidence in the U.S. has dropped by 45% since the 1950s. This wasn't primarily accomplished through high-tech, but through improved lifestyles, lower smoking rates among men, and improved diets-all factors that modified bio¬chemical processes governed by our genes.

lung cancer
Lung Cancer - Smoke That Cigarette!

Introduction

Lung cancer is a disease of uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung.

Richard H. Currently, there is no 100% sure cure for Tinnitus, or even a 10% sure cure. There is simply only relief. Do not let the ads fool you, Tinnitus is too rare of a condition to have research spent on it, instead of such diseases as AIDS or cancer.

Fortunately, if any constellation, there are a few different methods for curing Tinnitus. There are three different problems that are believed to cause Tinnitus:

- Psychological
- Physical
- Insanity

Though none of them have been truly proven to be the root cause of Tinnitus, there are experts on each one if you believe strongly in one. Because Tinnitus is still relatively unknown, it is hard to provide good proof for any of them. You must also keep in mind that most likely Tinnitus will not truly be cured for 20-30 years, since it is near the bottom of medical priorities.

If you suffer from Tinnitus, it is important that you do not let it get the best from you. Health takes precedent over all other life aspects, so it is important that you do everything you can to reduce it, because the other effects of Tinnitus can be very serious.

One benefit about Tinnitus being a relatively unknown medical concern, is that there aren't very many, if any at all, scammers providing you with false information to make a quick buck. The companies that do actually provide you with solutions truly do want to help the customer. So keep in mind, where you see products like "Tinnitus Cure" though it will not completely solve the problem, it will provide you with crucial information to reduce the problem.

Ringing in the Ears

Ringing in the ears is a term that may sound like it has something to do with Christmas bells or conjure up images of angelic dancing but, for those who suffer from constant ringing in the ears the image is quite different.

Also know as tinnitus, ringing in the ears adversely affects around 20% of the population of which 16% of those have tinnitus so severely that they cannot function on a normal day to day basis.

However, the purpose of this article is not to point out mere statistics, but to offer hope to those with severe constant ringing in the ears. As one who has suffered greatly in the past from tinnitus, I feel compelled to offer a probable solution to this problem. However, the probability of success depends on each individual and how much they are willing to keep an open mind.

The secret to alleviating the symptoms of ringing in the ears, is to program the mind to shift its focus away tinnitus. While that may sound simple, in my experience I've found that it is not for most people.

You see, most people are taught to focus on a problem until you can fix it. Therefore, if ringing in the ears is seen as a problem, the natural tendency for most people is to start searching for a treatment or cure outside of themselves.

But to seek a treatment or cure, in the case of tinnitus, is futile since there isn't one. That's not to say that some people have not been helped but for most people with severe tinnitus there is no cure, at least not one that's proven 100% effective.

Therefore, the only other solution for ringing in the ears is to look inside oneself for the cure. Looking to your mind for the answer will only increase your chances of not finding one. Why? Because the mind loves problems. If you take a good hard look at your life you will notice this to be true.

The mind loves to seek out problems and focus on them. While it's doing this, it tells you that everyone has problems and therefore it makes itself feel good to be included. That's how the mind justifies problems. If you use your mind to look for evidence to find you are right, you will find it. That doesn't necessarily make you right.

However, if you begin to understand that you can reprogram your mind to act and behave another way, you will start to see miraculous results. Let's face it, if certain sufferers of ringing in the ears have tried everything else, then it's time to face the music and say, you know what, my mind is recreating the same situations over and over again.

Just knowing that the mind does this is the beginning of the answer. Simply noticing that the mind wants to focus on tinnitus is the key to unlocking the few remaining doors between you and ridding yourself of ringing in the ears forever.

Beyond noticing that your mind is completely dysfunctional, you must also begin to reset the mind's focus of attention to what you want instead of what you don't want. It's hard for most people to do this because of course most people don't know what they truly want.

Once you figure that out however, you will begin a healing process that is in a word; unprecedented. This secret is not a new one but it is still relatively unknown. The reason it's not known so well is that it's been hidden from you. Not purposefully, but because most people only believe what they can see, its hard for them to even realize there may be another way.

It's not that anyone's keeping the secret from you; most just don't know there is one. Your ringing in the ears is a wake up call for you to discover the true potential of this secret. If you leverage the power of your ringing in the ears you can actually bring about monumental healing in every aspect of you life.

Ringing in the ears is a gift. If you see it as such, you will be so much more mentally, emotionally and spiritually advanced than the vast majority of society. But don't let it go to your head. That is ego and as such, will not empower you. What will? If you begin to comprehend the secret to curing your ringing in the ears, teach it to someone else. Now that is true power.

Ovarian Cancer
The American Cancer Society estimated that approximately 15,280 women died from ovarian cancer in the United States during 2007. Ovarian cancer ranks fifth among cancers in women, and accounts for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. Part of the reason for ovarian cancer's high mortality rate is the difficulty in diagnosing a disease with few warning signs. Another aspect of ovarian cancer that makes the disease one of the most challenging to treat is the fact that tumors can grow quickly, and aggressively spread through the abdomen to other organs.

Like any cancer, the sooner ovarian cancer is diagnosed and treated, the better a woman's chances of survival. If the cancer can be treated before it has spread outside the ovary, the five year survival rate is 93%. However, only 19% of all ovarian cancers are found at this stage, so it is crucial that women of all ages are familiar with symptoms, which can initially be quite vague. These include:

* Bleeding from the vagina

* Pain in the lower abdomen

* Pelvic and/or abdominal swelling, bloating, and/or a feeling of fullness

* Unexplained weight gain or loss

* Vague but persistent gastrointestinal upsets such as gas, nausea, and indigestion

* Unexplained changes in bowel habits

* Ongoing unusual fatigue

Women who experience any of these symptoms, but particularly bloating , pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full very quickly, and having the urge to urinate frequently on a daily basis for more than two or three weeks, should contact her gynecologist immediately and schedule a pelvic exam. One of the diagnostic tests available is the transvaginal ultrasound, which helps determine whether there are abnormal growths present or other signs of cancer in the ovaries.

A woman can also inherit an increased risk of ovarian cancer. This is particularly true if a direct relative (mother, father, sister, or daughter) has, or has had ovarian, breast, colon, or prostate cancer. Women with a strong family history of ovarian cancer are more likely to develop the disease at a younger age (prior to 50).

While statistics indicate ovarian cancer mainly occurs in women 55 or older, one third of women who develop this disease are much younger. Regardless of age, one thing for all women to keep in mind is that a Pap Test does not detect ovarian cancer. Currently, there are no reliable, accurate screening tests in existence. However, women should still have annual vaginal exams, as the detection of abnormal swelling or tenderness can be an indication of more serious problems.

Two of the diagnostic tests available are generally used with women having a higher risk of ovarian cancer. The transvaginal sonography or ultrasound (discussed above) is an ultrasound performed with a small instrument placed in the vagina. The second test involves blood work to determine if the level of a tumor marker called CA-125 has increased in the blood. Again, this test is primarily used with women at high risk or who have had an abnormal pelvic exam.

The good news is that rates of this terrible disease are declining. But, to continue making strides in early detection, treatment options, and survival rates, all women need to familiarize themselves with the symptoms associated with ovarian cancer and consult their gynecologist and discuss concerns.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, there are numerous organizations committed to eradicating the disease. These organizations also provide education on treatment and prevention, resources such as support groups, and information on the latest research. Here are some of the most well known:

Gynecologic Cancer Foundation - Established in 1991 by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO), the mission of GCF is to promote public awareness about the prevention, early detection, and treatment of gynecologic cancers.
www.thegcf.org

National Ovarian Cancer Coalition - Their mission is to raise awareness and promote education about ovarian cancer. The site offers state chapters, breaking news, support and services, clinical trails, and resources.
www.ovarian.org

National Cancer Institute - This organization is under the umbrella of the U.S. National Institute of Health. The site provides extensive information on treatment, prevention and causes, clinical trials, and research.
www.cancer.gov

American Cancer Society - The ACS is a community-based, voluntary organization with chapters throughout the United States. The mission of the ACS is to prevent cancer and save lives.
www.cancer.org

Blood Cancer

Blood is a part of the body. Blood has different components sch as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. The red blood cells (RBC), platelets also called monocytes because it is belong to the "myeloid" group and other white blood cells belong to the "lymphoid" group. Lymphoid cells are affected. Disease progresses quickly. This is most common among children. Blood cancer or Leukemia is actually a group of diseases, each of which impede with the normal functioning of blood cells and progressively weaken the system. Leukemia is classified as either Acute or Chronic. Blood and urine samples may also be tested for various substances, called tumor markers, which may indicate cancer.

Causes

A weakened immune system - this may be a result of drugs that suppress the immune system (such as those used for organ transplants), high doses of radiation (such as in radiotherapy for another cancer), or diseases that affect the immune system (such as HIV).

Contact with a chemical called benzene, one of the chemicals in petrol and a solvent used in the rubber and plastics industry.

Genetic disorders like Fanconi anemia, Schwachman-Diamond syndrome and Down syndrome.

Treatment

In radio immunotherapy, an immunotoxin--a hybrid molecule formed by coupling an antibody molecule to a toxin--is injected into the patient. The antibody locks onto a signature protein the cancerous cells express and delivers the toxic dose to the cancer cells. Because the treatment is precision-guided, adverse effects to the rest of the body are minimized. Preliminary results with the new drug are extremely promising--completely eradicating the human cancer cells grafted to mice.

Your doctor may prescribe medications, sometimes called "growth factors," that encourage your body to produce more blood cells. Medications are also used to prevent low blood cell counts in people who have a high probability of experiencing complications of cancer treatment. Medications have benefits and risks, so talk to your doctor about the possible side effects of drugs used to boost blood cell counts.

Most people feel confused and overwhelmed when they are told they have leukaemia. It's a very distressing time both for them and their families. An important part of cancer treatment is learning how to talk about how you are feeling, and getting support with the physical and emotional symptoms you are experiencing.

For more advanced cancer, you can receive extra support, known as palliative care. Doctors and nurses based in hospitals, hospices and pain clinics specialize in providing the support you need, and can also visit you at home.

Many everyday activities put you at risk of cuts and scrapes. A low platelet count makes even minor abrasions serious. A low white blood cell count can turn a small cut into a starting point for a serious infection. Use an electric shaver rather than a razor to avoid nicks. Ask someone else to cut up food in the kitchen. Be gentle when brushing your teeth and blowing your nose.

Biological therapy uses special immune system cells and proteins to stimulate the body's immune system to kill cancer cells. Biological agents such as interferons, interleukins, monoclonal antibodies, tumor necrosis factors and colony-stimulating factors are natural substances found in the body that help alter the way the immune system reacts to cancer. Researchers are now able to create reproductions of some of these biological agents in laboratories, imitating the natural immune agents. These agents are used to augment the anti-tumor immune response of the patient.

Prostate Cancer

The medical and scientific communities have made tremendous advances in prostate cancer prevention in the last few decades as more and more was learned about its causes and risk factors.

Some risk factors - such as race, family history or age - can't be changed. But others like diet and weight can certainly be controlled.

A number of recent studies suggest that men who wanting to reduce their risk should eat fewer red meats and high-fat dairy products, and also eat five or more servings of vegetables and fruits each day. Regular exercise, of course, can help maintain a healthy weight.

Several large studies aimed at discovering agents that might prevent prostate cancer are in progress. Most notable are studies of vitamin E with selenium, and others evaluating the possibility that a class of drugs known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (Proscar or Avodart) might prevent an occurrence.

Lycopene has shown promise for its role prevention. Lycopene is the red pigment in tomatoes, guava, watermelon, and red grapefruit. It is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the body from the formation of free radicals. Free radicals cause damage to cells, which in turn can impair the immune system, leading to infections, cancer, or degenerative diseases such as heart disease.

A Harvard Medical School study found that four foods were associated with a low risk of developing prostate cancer include tomato sauce (on spaghetti), pizza with tomato sauce, tomatoes and strawberries.

Men who ate ten or more servings of these foods weekly were 45% less likely to develop prostate cancer. Those who ate four to seven servings of the foods were 20% less likely.

It's important to note that a different study found that the absorption of lycopene can be affected by what form the tomato is in and what is cooked with the tomato. Scientists believe that more lycopene is released when the tomato is crushed and cooked to be a sauce or paste. Fresh tomato and tomato juice do not raise the blood lycopene level as high as tomato sauce with oil cooked in the sauce--such as spaghetti or pizza sauce.

More lycopene studies are in progress and their reports will be known in the coming years.

Colon Cancer

Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine (colon), the lower part of your digestive system. About 112,000 people are diagnosed with this type of cancer annually in the United States of America. This data was released by the American Cancer Society. Most new cases of colon cancer begin with small cell clumps. They are called Adenomatous Polyps. Over time some of these clumps develop into dangerous cancer cells. In general, cancer occurs when healthy body cells turn into "enemies" inside your own body. A patient will not see any early symptoms before the actual cancer cells have developed. One reason why early pre-screening examinations provide the best protection from colon cancer to develop into the dangerous illness it can be. Common signs of colon cancer include (but are not limited to) changes in bowel habits, blood in a patients stool, recurring cramping, gas, bloating or even abdominal pain. Blood in your stool may be an early sign of cancer, but it can also indicate other conditions like hemorrhoids or minor tears in your anal area. Recurring blood found in your stool should trigger a visit to your primary care physician as a precaution (rather safe than sorry).

Risk factors that might may increase your risk of becoming sick with colon cancer. Age is a large risk factor. The typical patient is 50 years or older in age. A family history of cancer, especially colon cancer could indicate that you have a higher risk of becoming sick. Long-standing inflammatory diseases of the colon can put you at higher risk of colon cancer. Colon cancer may be associated with a bad diet that is low in fiber and very high in fat and calories (Junk Food). Scientists have not fully agreed on this last item, but in general a diet that contains a lot of Junk Food (Burgers, Fries, Fried Food in general, etc.) is high in bad fats which has already shown to affect a patient's health in a very negative way. If you are more of couch potato and less the active guy or gal, you might have a higher risk of getting colon cancer. Diabetics also face a possible higher risk of colon cancer. This list can be expanded easily by adding obesity, large alcohol consumption and smoking. Just keep in mind that these are just pieces that can increase the risk of getting colon cancer. It does not mean that smoking (just to mention an example) will cause colon cancer. You would probably die of lung cancer first.

If you notice any easy to spot symptoms of colon cancer, such as blood in your stool or a persistent, recurring change in your bowel habits, visit your primary care physician as soon as possible and talk about the possibility of colon cancer. Also consider pre-screening as an option if colon cancer has a family history.

Conclusion: Colon cancer is no fun to have. It is a real risk and any suspicion of experiencing colon cancer should be treated accordingly by visiting your doctor. A healthy lifestyle with regular exercise will help not only to reduce the risk of cancer, but also to prevent many other diseases. Your doctor and your health insurance can help you to develop a diet that is not only healthy, but tastes good as well.

Breast Cancer
Here are some well known facts about breast cancer. It uses no radiation, only a heat detecting camera.

* Our mainstream medical system doesn't have a cure for breast cancer, only treatments.

* Breast cancer awareness month in October has done nothing to bring the cancer rate down, facts that we are all aware of. It has also been called breast cancer recruitment month.

* Breast cancer is classed in stages, 1 to 4. (4 being the worst)

* Removing the cancerous lump in the breast only addresses the problem, not the cause of the problem. (That's why the cancer returns)

* Radical mastectomies do not address why you got breast cancer in the first place.

* Having a double mastectomy as a preventative measure may stop breast cancer but does nothing for all other cancers.

* DCIS which is Ductal Carcinoma in Situ is a very mild form of breast cancer; it is classed as stage 0. They may have their own personal valid reasons for wanting to know their chances of survival or getting better. If you are a mesothelioma patient interested in the same thing, then you have the right to know. Do keep in mind though that there are various prognosis sources. Here are some important points you should consider when reading about asbestos cancer prognosis.

Prognosis Data

Where it Comes From - The first thing you should understand is where prognosis data comes from. Real prognosis information is based form statistical data. Researchers look into different mesothelioma cases through clinical studies to get average figures. This may mean that genuine prognosis information may be true for a large number of patients. This does not mean though that the information is always true.

Asbestos cancer cases can be unique. This is because a lot of different factors can affect mesothelioma. Some of these include your overall health, treatments taken, time when treatment began, mesothelioma type and severity of the condition. It is therefore important not to view prognosis information as absolutely true in your case.

Difficulties with Prognosis

It may be difficult to arrive at statistical or personal mesothelioma prognosis. This is because mesothelioma itself is not like many other forms of cancer. The condition is rare. Asbestos exposure, which is the primary risk factor linked to this condition is not always experienced by a lot of people. Those who also have the condition may not immediately seek doctors' assistance for diagnosis and treatment. The symptoms do not obviously point to the condition and may even mimic the symptoms of other diseases.

Statistical Information

So what do the statistical figures say? Since patients are often diagnosed late, the prognosis for many patients is not good. A lot of patients are told that they can expect to live for only less than a year. Again, there are exceptions to this prognosis. There have been personal accounts of patients who have survived for more than five years. Some even live up to ten years after diagnosis.

Diagnosis

Like other forms of cancer, early mesothelioma diagnosis is important. Early diagnosis means early treatment and higher chances of survival. Since early diagnosis is not often made due to the lack of unique symptoms, you may not even think that a doctor's visit is necessary. Your only clue that may suggest that you may need medical monitoring is asbestos exposure. This is only true however for individuals who work closely with asbestos. Patients who do not handle asbestos on a regular basis may not even remember or know that they have been exposed to asbestos.

Treatment

Treatment is one factor that can affect individual prognosis. Depending on your overall health, the stage of your disease and your doctor's evaluation, you may have to undergo one or two cancer treatment methods. Like other forms of cancer, mesothelioma may be treated through chemotherapy, surgery or radiation therapy.

Mesothelioma prognosis is definitely never definite. Although prognosis information can provide you with valuable insight about the disease, there is no reason to believe that you absolutely have no hope of surviving beyond a year.

Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is more prevalent today than ever before. Whether this is because we are simply more aware of the disease or that our changes in lifestyle are the cause of this increase are not completely clear. However, it is clear that many people still ignore advice on how to prevent skin cancer. This article will cover the primary reasons why people develop the disease and prevention of skin cancer tips.

People develop cancer through a combination of their genetic makeup and exposure to some environmental condition. They may be genetically predisposed to not react to mutating cells by destroying them. They may have a profile that makes them more susceptible to the environmental conditions.

In the case of skin cancer, the environmental condition that is thought to cause the disease is ultraviolet radiation. In most cases this ultraviolet radiation comes from the Sun. So it is very hard to avoid being exposed to this radiation. All you can really do is limit your exposure it.

So prevention of skin cancer can work on two levels. Find out if you are genetically predisposed to be more susceptible to ultraviolet radiation skin damage. Limit your exposure to the main cause of ultraviolet radiation.

If you have a family history of skin cancer then this means you are more susceptible. If you have fair skin and burn rather than tan in the sun then you are more susceptible to developing skin cancer. The same applies if you have fair hair and light colored eyes. All these signs indicate that you have less melanin in the body than a person with darker tones. Melanin makes the skin tan in sunlight and to a limited extent prevents the skin from burning.

If you fit into any of these categories then you should be more cautious about your exposure to ultraviolet radiation. This could be direct sunlight or using devices like sun beds. Indeed, if you have a family history of skin cancer then you shouldn't use sun beds and take extra precautions when in the sun. If you burn easily in the sun, make sure it doesn't happen. Protect your skin.

You should still take precautions when in the sun, even if you don't think you are predisposed to developing skin cancer. The best way to prevent skin cancer is to cover up when in the sun. Wear a hat, wear a long sleeved shirt, wear sunglasses and cover the exposed parts of your body with a good sunscreen. The sunscreen should be a 30+ sun protection factor. You should apply it before you are exposed to sunlight rather than when you are in the sun.

Above all, keep this advice in mind. Many problems occur because people think it won't happen to them. This is especially the case when you are younger and the temptation to spend time in the sun is greater, but the affects of ultraviolet radiation build up over time. In later years you may develop skin cancer because you didn't apply sunscreen when you were younger.

Arthritis

Arthritis can cause a lot of pain and severely alter the day-to-day activities of an individual. However, it does not have to be that way, and through exercise, you can actually get the better of arthritis and go back to the things you love, including knitting, golfing, gardening and more.

These exercises are easy to do and extremely effective.

1. Ankle circles are an excellent way to keep your ankle joints healthy. You simply need to sit upright in a chair with your feet out in front of you. Then, just circle your feet in one direction 20 times, and then the opposite direction 20 times.

2. The heal/toe lift is another effective way to deal with arthritis in your feet, and it involves sitting forward on a chair with your feet flat. Then, lift your heels, keep your toes on the floe and then lift your toes. Hold this for three seconds and repeat 20 times.

3. Knee raises will work the kneecap and joints there to ensure you do not suffer arthritis there, which can keep you from walking as much as you would like. Sit on the edge of a chair with your back straight and lift your knees as high as you can without bending your back. Keep your abdomen tight, and then slowly lower your legs back to the starting position.

4. If you want to combine the legs with the ankles in exercise, you can do the leg lift with ankle movements. In this case, you sit with your back supported, and you slowly straighten your knee. With the knee slightly bent, you then bend the ankle with your toes pointing out ahead. Reverse this and have your toes point towards the ceiling. Repeat once more with the other leg.

5. Shoulder stretches can be done by sitting or standing with your forearms pressed against your body. Then, bring your elbows to the 'hands up' position, with your palms facing forward. After that, stretch your arms overhead as far as you can, and keep your elbows in line with the side of your body.

6. Forward arm reaches involve sitting or standing with your arms at your sides and your elbow bent with the thumbs pointing towards your shoulders. Stretch your arms overhead and then lower to the start position.

7. The fingers are very prone to arthritis, but you can deal with this when you do the finger walk and thumb circles exercise. You simply sit with hands on the table, fingers pointing ahead, and then slide thumbs towards each other. Slide each finger, one at a time, toward the thumb, and then walk your hands by lifting them one at a time toward the thumb. Once completed, lift your hands and put them down straight, then move your fingers to the thumb again.

8. Walking everyday is a great way to stretch your back and leg muscles, along with your joints. Plus you get to see the outdoors and enjoy the nice weather.

Arthritis is a tough thing to deal with, but when you use the exercises outlined here, you can enjoy less arthritis problems and more mobility, which will get you out doing the things you have always enjoyed, quicker than you thought possible.

Dental Surgery

Do you feel that your teeth are having a negative impact on your otherwise glowing smile? If you do, you may be interested in seeking treatment from a cosmetic dentist. Although there are a number of cosmetic dentistry procedures that you can undergo, a number of these procedures fall under the category of cosmetic surgery.

Although cosmetic dental surgery is generally considered safe, there are a still a number of risks. In fact, there are always dangers and risks when the skin or gums are broken. There is, however, something that you can do to protect yourself. By carefully choosing your cosmetic dentist, you are likely to see the best results, as well as a decrease in complication risks.

In keeping with choosing the right cosmetic dentist, you may have the option of staying with your primary care dentist. There are many dentists who also perform cosmetic procedures, including veneers, teeth whitening, dental implants, and gum lifts. With that said, be sure to inquire about the success rate and frequency of those procedures. You may feel more comfortable visiting a dentist who performs cosmetic surgery procedures on a daily basis, as opposed to a few times a month.

As for how you can go about finding a cosmetic dentist, you may want ask your primary care dentist for recommendations. Let them know that you will return to their offices for your annual checkups, but that you feel more comfortable seeing a specialist. They should understand your decision and even give you recommendations. In addition to asking your primary care dentist, ask any friends, coworkers, or family members if they know of any quality cosmetic dentists in the area.

Although the above mentioned steps can help you find cosmetic dentists in your area, you need to choose a dentist. Simply just picking one out of the phone book can increase your chances of poor results and complications. Instead, you will want to do the proper amount of research online. This is easy if your local cosmetic dentists have online websites. On those websites, you will likely find information on cosmetic procedures performed, a brief summary of the process, average rates, as well as before and after pictures. Also, be sure to examine qualifications and the number of years in dentistry.

Cost should also be examined. Cosmetic surgery isn't always covered by dental insurance, but you may be surprised to know that some procedures are. Many insurance companies find veneers an affordable way to reduce the long-term costs of dental care. Dental implants are also a nice alternative to dentures. Do not make the assumption that your insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures until you know for sure. On the back of your dental insurance card, you should see a customer service phone number that you can call to make the inquiry.

Once you have decided that you would like to improve your smile with the use of a cosmetic dental procedure, you will want to schedule a consultation appointment. Most dentists do require them; however, still ask for a consultation appointment even if they are only optional. At a consultation appointment, you and your cosmetic dentist can decide on a course of treatment, highlight the procedures you will undergo in detail, summarize the recovery process, as well as show you sample before and after pictures.

Back Muscle Pain

Back muscle pain arises most commonly due to damage or injury of the soft tissues around the spine. Instead introspect and remove the pain from the root.

Anorexia

Anorexia symptoms are hard to see because the afflicted try to hide them as much as they possibly can. When they are caught they will try to explain their way out of it. Often they will do a good job of it, too. Eventually the signs will be too hard to hide. Their condition, at this point, will be so unmanageable that their bodies will exhibit clear evidence of their condition.

The most common anorexia symptoms can be seen in behavior and eating habits. One particular telltale habit is when a person goes on a restrictive diet even when the person is already thin. Such a diet would often ban fat and carbohydrates.

Another sign is when the person carries around a food diary or is obsessed with keeping track of their food intake. Patients will keep on counting their calories obsessively. It would even go to the point of weighing the portions that he or she eats.

Another thing to watch out for is when a person has strange rituals when it comes to his or her eating. They would be eating in ritualistic ways like obsessing about the cuts of the meat portions. In most cases the person would be very secretive about these rituals. They would even refuse to eat in public places or usually eat alone.

Another anorexia symptom is when a person lies or pretends that they have already eaten. They would even throw away food just to avoid eating. They will often have excuses like "I'm not feeling too good" or "I've had a big breakfast".

Sometimes an anorexic would hide their behavior too well that the disease will just be evident in the person's body and her body image. Often you would hear the person complain about how fat he or she is.

In some cases, an anorexic would obsess over their body. Tiny fluctuations of their weight bother them a great deal. They are overly critical of their appearance. They would constantly be looking in mirrors and pointing at flaws.

The rapid weight loss would be evident in their body. There would be no medical cause but the drop in their weight would be drastic. They would try to deny being too thin and try to hide it by wearing baggy clothes and try to hide their weight in physicals by drinking a lot of water.

In some cases, anorexics use purging to reduce their body weight and limit their calorie intake. Take notice of their use of water pills and herbal appetite pills to suppress heir hunger. They would also use laxatives to pass food a lot faster. They will also use ipecac syrup to induce vomiting.

Exercise can also be an anorexia symptom where they exhibit and follow a strict exercise regimen. They would often work hard after eating something bad like fat or hi-calorie foods. Nothing can interrupt this strict regimen. They would even workout despite injuries or bad weather.

Anorexia is a very dangerous sickness. It is hard to diagnose and anorexia symptoms are always well hidden. If you know someone that exhibits these symptoms, it would be best to call a medical professional to see the best way to help the person.

High Blood Pressure

Symptoms of high blood pressure are headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, pounding in the ears, a slow or fast heartbeat, nervousness and lack of sexual desire. This is by far not a complete list but is the most common symptoms doctors see today. These are usually ignored by people but it is always recommended to keep a check on your blood pressure on a daily basis if have been experiencing any of them on a regular basis.

Heart attack, stroke, eye damage and vision problems are just some of the damage that it can cause. It's important that if you have experienced any symptoms that you contact your doctor immediately. Heart attacks develop because the heart is "overloaded" and cannot work with what oxygen it has available. This is known as "ischemia" - or a lack of oxygen to the heart or brain.

You may also experience breathlessness. Breathlessness in people with high blood pressure is usually a result of being obese. On the other hand, if your blood pressure has risen out of control, or has strangely fallen without any change in medication, then breathlessness may be the symptom of early heart failure. Breathlessness--a feeling of being out of breath during routine physical activity--is usually the first symptom people notice. If walking up a flight of stairs takes your breath away, that could mean you have emphysema (but it is also a symptom of heart disease and some types of cancer).

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is considered a modern day disease that can lead to heart disease and stroke. As soon as symptoms are apparent, the proper treatment should be sought immediately. Hypertension, if left untreated, can cause the heart to enlarge due to the increased force necessary to pump blood against the greater resistance in your vessels. It is often called "the silent killer". It affects nearly 50 million Americans.

If you feel you have any of these symptoms of high blood pressure you should get a check up immediately. Your doctor will normally have you come in a few times to monitor your pressure and run some simple tests. You may even be asked to track it on a daily basis for a couple of weeks before reporting back to him.

Medications are generally not prescribed until the doctor determines these symptoms are due to high blood pressure. If you don't want to take medication for the rest of your life, then you can find other options to lower your blood pressure. These natural options can be just as effective. No matter what you decide, you need to take high blood pressure seriously.

Asthma

What is asthma?

Asthma is chronic disease of the respiratory system that causes inflammation and constriction in the airways, increasing sensitivity to allergens, cold, warm or moist air, and physical exertion or stress.

When muscles surrounding the airways shrink, excess mucous is produced and the individual suffers difficulty breathing or an "asthma attack." In extreme cases, such attacks can cut off the oxygen supply to vital organs, sometimes resulting in death.

What causes asthma?

Though a very common disease, the exact cause of asthmatic inflammation remains largely unknown. However, genetics, emotional stress, and early-life viral infection increase the risk, as does overexposure to allergens and airborne irritants such as pollution and tobacco smoke.

What are the symptoms?

Some indicators that an individual may be suffering from asthma are:

• Shortness of breath

• Coughing, wheezing and tightness in the chest

• Difficulty in talking and concentrating

• Nasal flaring while breathing

• Hunched shoulders or drooping posture

• Bluish or gray tint to the skin, beginning in the area around the mouth

• Visible contraction in the neck and area below the ribs while breathing

Are there any natural cures?

At the moment, there is no permanent cure for asthma since the primary cause of the condition remains unknown. However, foods containing additives and preservatives such as sulfates, MSG, gallates and colorings are commonly believed to trigger asthma attacks and reactions. Avoiding those foods as well as those containing yeast or mold such as blue cheese and breads can help minimize risks.

In addition, the condition can be controlled through medication, environmental changes, and natural treatments which enhance the patient's quality of life.

HONEY, mixed with warm water and cinnamon powder, consumed daily with breakfast or at bedtime offers some relief from asthma, as does a jar of honey held under the nose of anyone suffering from an asthma attack.

GARLIC can also aid in alleviating asthma symptoms in the initial stages. To utilize it's effectiveness: Boil ten garlic cloves in 30 milliliters of milk and drink the mixture once each day. Or, add two garlic cloves to steaming ginger tea, and drink each morning and evening.

Two tablespoons of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR added to an eight-ounce cup of water and consumed each day has proven helpful against asthma, too.

Heart Attack

Heart disease remains the number one killer in Canada, despite the fact that billions of dollars are spent each year treating cardiovascular disease. Personal prevention should be exercised to eliminate/control several risk factors of heart disease including high blood pressure, obesity, stress, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, and elevated cholesterol levels.

Many heart patients take blood thinners, such as aspirin. Research has shown that the risk of a first heart attack can be reduced by as much as 50% by taking aspirin regularly. However, 70% of long-term aspirin users experience intestinal bleeding and ulcers. As well, aspirin consumption can have other serious side effects such as:

Protein loss due to impaired transport through intestinal lining.

Reduced immune function due to binding of certain prostaglandins important for normal immune responses.

Impaired ability of white blood cells (part of immune system) to absorb vitamin C, which is essential for their proper functioning.

Worsening of food sensitivities/allergies due to the damage to the intestinal wall.

Worsening of asthma, kidney problems and anemia in sensitive people. Heart disease is greatly influenced by nutrition. The minimal nutritional requirements for decreasing risk factors include the elimination of red meat, animal fats, fried foods, spicy foods, processed, and refined foods from the diet.

Increased consumption of cardio-protective foods (fish, not seafood) is recommended. Additionally, a well-known nutrient beneficial to heart disease prone patients is Allicin. It is especially useful in cases of high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Allicin can be found in garlic, and while the increased consumption of garlic is beneficial, garlic tablets from a reputable source ensure the necessary intake of Allicin.

Also from a nutritional standpoint, persons prone to heart disease should be limiting the intake of foods high in vitamin K, which increases blood clotting (alfalfa, broccoli, cauliflower, egg yolks, liver, spinach, and all dark green vegetables) and increase the intake of foods that enhance the effects of anticoagulants (wheat germ, vitamin E, soybean and sunflower seeds).

To complement the above dietary improvements, supplements, herbs, homeopathy, and acupuncture can all work in a synergistic way to help the heart function normally again.

Please remember that these suggestions are general; for an individual approach to your specific condition, consider our on-line treatment option.

Remember: Heart disease is not an aspirin deficiency. Even though aspirin is the drug of choice, there are many other natural alternatives for a heart attack survivor.

As a heart attack survivor, remember: you are a winner already! Keep going and enjoy life! Most of the food we eat is broken down into glucose, the form of sugar in the blood. Glucose is the main source of fuel for the body. Diabetes causes glucose to back up in the bloodstream. As more and more glucose remains in the bloodstream blood glucose or blood sugar levels can rise too high.

There are two major types of diabetes. Consider the following information as it relates to both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. In type 1 diabetes (also called juvenile-onset diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes), the body completely stops producing any insulin. Insulin is a hormone that enables the body to use glucose to produce energy. Sufferers of type 1 diabetes must take daily insulin injections in order to survive. Type 1 diabetes usually develops in children or young adults; however, it can occur at any age.

Type 2 diabetes (also called adult-onset diabetes or non insulin-dependent diabetes) results when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin and/or is unable to use insulin properly .Type 2 diabetes happens when your body either cannot produce enough insulin or does not use the insulin it makes properly. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas. Many of the foods we eat such as bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and fruit are converted into sugar and give us the energy we need to maintain life. Insulin gets the sugar into the cells.

Diabetes is a life-long condition. High blood glucose levels over a long period of time can cause blindness, heart disease, kidney problems, and amputations. Good diabetes care and management can prevent or delay the onset of these complications.

To manage your diabetes well, it is very important that you: Don’t smoke
Keep your blood glucose levels in your target range
Keep your cholesterol and other blood fats in your target range
Keep your weight in a healthy range
Keep your blood pressure close to target level
Take your medication as prescribed

For more more information about diabetes please visit http://www.diabetes-help.biz

Lung Cancer
Lung Cancer - Smoke That Cigarette!

Introduction

Lung cancer is a disease of uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung.

Richard H.
